His artistic career began with painting genre scenes in Manila before he moved to Spain in 1955 and became a key figure in Spanish abstraction during the 1950s and 1960s.\u003cbr\u003eHe developed an abstract, lyrical, and landscape-inspired style based on a rigorous process of formal refinement. In Spain, he became friends with informalist artists and participated in avant-garde movements such as ADA in Berlin in 1974. In 1966, he founded the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art in Cuenca with Gustavo Torner and Gerardo Rueda, featuring works by artists such as Saura, Millares, and Sempere, which he donated to the Juan March Foundation in 1981.\u003cbr\u003eZóbel exhibited internationally starting in the 1950s.
