idealista will present at SIMA the third artist to be awarded the “idealista Contemporary Art Award”, an award that aims to reward the talent and vision of young creators and encourage and support artistic production. This year, the “III idealista Award” has been awarded to the artist Jorge Yeregui (Santander, 1975), who from 27 to 30 May will present at the idealista stand at SIMA his project “Communities”, a reflection on urban space based on his own design and communication tools. This exhibition, curated by Elisa Hernando Calero and coordinated by the Arte Global team, will include a series of 50 drawings, 4 video art pieces and a site-specific intervention by the artist.
Jorge Yeregui's work interprets how the landscape has evolved as man's relationship with his environment has progressed. At the present time, the way of seeing is undergoing a notable transformation in the transition from discovery to recognition, to the point that it is almost impossible to see with an innocent gaze. The artist explores this way of constructing and representing the landscape, proposing a reflection on perception and the way in which we construct knowledge of our environment. His projects transcend the aesthetics of the landscape and undermine the confluence of natural, cultural and social factors that condition it.
Jorge Yeregui is a visual artist, architect and professor at the School of Architecture of Malaga. His work investigates the construction of the landscape and the transformation of the territory. The relationship between architecture and the environment or the influence of markets on urban growth are some of his topics of interest.
His work is represented in important collections such as the Ministry of Culture of Spain, the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, the Coca Cola Foundation, the Photography Center of the University of Salamanca, the Cajasol Foundation, the Botín Foundation Collection, the New Pilar Citoler Collection or the DKV Collection.
Idealist Award
idealista has been supporting national and international artists for years and promoting the artistic production of contemporary art by acquiring works of art that reflect the impact of “urbanism” on people’s lives. Its collection includes pieces by authors such as Panos Kokkinias (Athens, Greece, 1965), Teresa Margolles (Culiacán, Mexico, 1963), Maider López (San Sebastián, Spain, 1975), Olaf Breuning (Schaffhausen, Switzerland, 1970) and Massimo Vitali (Como, Italy, 1944). The works are part of an itinerant route between the company’s offices in Barcelona, Lisbon, Madrid, Málaga and Milan. For the creation of the “idealista Award” and the coordination of the award in future editions, idealista has selected Elisa Hernando, Director of Global Art, who has curated the intervention that Jorge Yeregui will carry out at SIMA.
