We see with our brains, not our eyes, so it's important to analyze what our minds rely on to construct and invent elements, what drives them, and the whys and hows of our interpretation of reality. These questions, inherent to science, are addressed by Jorge Perianes through artistic practice, seeking a possible edification and positive discourse, in which seemingly distant symbols are united in a classical and poetic manner to seek new meanings or "ways out" of the world.
Knowing that all our perceptions are illusory, that reality is illusory, handling signs and symbols remains pertinent, and it is to nature that Perianes often turns to find the root of our symbology and where he finds unexpected connections and concretions that invite us to reflect on artificiality, mental reconstruction, reification, the momentary and the transient as elements for judging reality.
Jorge Perianes has participated in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Max Estrella Gallery and the Barjola Museum in Gijón; in 2015 at the Graça Morais Contemporary Art Center in Bragança; and the previous year at the CEE Montevideo in Montevideo and the Horno de la Ciudadela in Pamplona. In 2011, he was invited to participate in Abierto x Obras in Matadero, Madrid. In 2008, the MARCO exhibition in Vigo invited him to participate in its space.
