Jorge Yeregui (Santander, Spain, 1975) studied architecture at the University of Seville and later became a professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Malaga. His interpretation of the landscape has evolved as man's relationship with his environment progresses. Currently, the way of seeing is undergoing a notable transformation in the transition from discovery to recognition, to the point that it has become almost impossible to see with an innocent gaze. Jorge Yeregui explores this way of constructing and representing the landscape, proposing a reflection on perception and the way we construct knowledge of our environment. Her projects transcend the aesthetics of the landscape and explore the confluence of natural, cultural, and social factors that condition it. Yeregui received awards such as the Botín Foundation Plastic Arts Scholarship in 2015, the Casa Velázquez Scholarship in 2013-2014, and the Pilar Citoler International Contemporary Photography Award 2011 for a work from her series Paisajes Mínimos (Minimal Landscapes), which the judges concluded "constitutes a conceptual exploration of the symbolic value that nature attaches to the contemporary city." She has also received several residency grants from the Spanish Academy of Arts in Rome, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Colegio de España in Paris, Ministry of Culture. Her solo exhibitions have included those at Tabacalera Promoción del Arte (Madrid); the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art in Seville; the Center for Photography at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca; the José Guerrero Center in Granada; and the Colegio de España in Paris. She has also participated in international exhibitions at venues such as the Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City); the Medellín Architecture Biennial in Colombia; Cervantes Institute of Chicago; Festival Internazionale di Roma; Cervantes Institute of Beijing; Pingyao International Photography Festival; Arts Santa Mònica, Barcelona; Matadero, Madrid; DA2, Salamanca; Atlantic Center of Modern Art, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Le Château d'Eau, Toulouse, France and Winterthur Fotomuseum, Switzerland. Her work is represented in important collections such as the Ministry of Culture of Spain, the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art, the Coca-Cola Foundation, the Photography Center of the University of Salamanca, the Cajasol Foundation, the Botín Foundation Collection, the New Pilar Citoler Collection and the DKV Collection.
