Paula Anta is a Spanish artist and photographer born in Madrid in 1977. Her photographic series are based on concepts she develops in situ, often using installations to construct the final image. Her work focuses on the relationship between nature and artificiality, as well as on the structures created by humans, history, and travel. However, the main conceptual thrust of Anta's work is to showcase the cultural significance of each landscape in itself. Anta has participated in solo and group exhibitions since 2006, in Spain, Germany, France, and Italy. Her work has been exhibited in institutional centers such as CA2M, Tabacalera, Matadero, Alcobendas Art Center, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Royal Botanical Gardens, San Fernando Academy, Canal de Isabel II in Madrid, CCCB in Barcelona, La Laboral in Gijón, Niemeyer Center in Avilés, Domus Artium DA2 in Salamanca and Las Cigarreras Cultural Center in Alicante, as well as in several editions of the international photography festival, Photoespaña. Anta has received several prestigious awards and scholarships, including the Estampa Award from the Community of Madrid (2016), Finalist in the VIII Pilar Citoler International Biennial of Contemporary Photography (2015), AENA Foundation Award (2010), special mention of the COMBAT Award (2013), MAEC-AECID scholarships from the Academy of Spain in Rome (2011-2012) and FormARTE scholarships in Plastic Arts and Photography from the College of Spain in Paris, the Award for Artistic Creation of the Community of Madrid (2008-2009) and more recently, the creation grant from the Ankaria Foundation. Anta holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, obtained through the European Doctoral Program in collaboration with the University of Saarbrücken and the Universität de Künste in Berlin. She has taught classes and lectures at private entities such as the TAI School of Arts and Entertainment, the CES School of Image and Sound, the CEV School of Communication, Image and Sound, as well as at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Cuenca at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the Faculty of Fine Arts of Murcia, the workshop program of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, and abroad at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach (Frankfurt) and Cornell University in Rome.
