Donald Sultan (United States, 1951) studied at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1973, and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he completed a master’s degree in 1975. He works in painting, sculpture, and printmaking, focusing primarily on still life.

He creates large-scale compositions using industrial materials such as tar, enamel, putty, and vinyl tiles. His technique combines heavy textures with minimalist compositions. He currently lives and works in New York.

He received the New York Creative Artists Public Service Grant in 1978–1979 and the National Endowment for the Arts State Grant in 1980–1981. He was awarded honorary doctorates by the Corcoran School of Art in 2000, the New York Academy of Art in 2002, and the University of North Carolina, Asheville, in 2007. In 2010, he received the North Carolina Award, and in 2011, the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Houston Fine Art Fair. Leer menos
