Jaume Plensa was born in Barcelona in 1955 and is today one of the most prominent and internationally renowned sculptors in the world of fine arts. He began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona and has since worked in a variety of artistic forms, from drawing to sculpture, graphic art, opera sets, video projections, and acoustic installations. Plensa is known for his ability to work with a wide variety of materials, including polyester resin, steel, iron, water, glass, and nylon. His sculptures are interactive, requiring the viewer to interact with the pieces. His work is based on the dimension of humankind and its relationship with the environment, and has become a benchmark in the field of contemporary sculpture. Plensa's most notable works include the sculpture "Nomade," located at Rockefeller Center in New York, and "Crown Fountain," an installation in Millennium Park in Chicago. His works have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre National d'Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou in Paris. In 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Vic, in recognition of his artistic career and his contribution to the world of contemporary art.
