Between 1971 and 1975, Spanish artist Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) went through a period of depression motivated by the political instability affecting both Europe and, especially, Spain. This situation led him to move away from his usual medium, painting, to concentrate on creating graphic works of exceptional quality. It was during this particular period of production that the print Montroig 3 was created. Its title refers to the Catalan town of Mont-roig del Camp, which Miró first visited at the age of 18 to recover from an illness. From then on, he fell in love with the place, which became one of his favorite summer residences.
