Juan Uslé is a Spanish painter, born in Santander in 1954. He studied Fine Arts at the San Carlos School in Valencia between 1973 and 1977. In 1986, he moved to New York with a grant from the Spanish-North American Joint Committee. Since then, he has built an international career, working between New York and Cantabria.

His painting stands between abstraction and representation, with a style based on color, light, repetition, rhythm, and the building of images through layers. His works refer to memory, nature, water, night, movement, and visual experience. Although he has also worked with photography, painting remains his main practice.

His works are part of collections such as the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, MoMA, Tate, Mudam Luxembourg, Centre Pompidou, Moderna Museet, and Museo Reina Sofía. His confirmed awards include the National Prize for Visual Arts in 2002 and the Drawing Prize from the Daniel and Florence Guerlain Contemporary Art Foundation in 2020.
