Juan Uslé (Spain, 1954) studied Fine Arts at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia from 1973 to 1977. In 1986, he moved to New York after receiving a grant from the Joint Spanish-American Committee. Since then, he has developed an international career, working between New York and Cantabria.

His painting occupies a space between abstraction and representation, with a visual language grounded in color, light, repetition, rhythm, and the layered construction of images. His works incorporate references to memory, nature, water, night, movement, and visual experience. Although he has also worked with photography, painting remains his principal medium.

His work is held in collections including the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Tate, Mudam Luxembourg, the Centre Pompidou, Moderna Museet, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. His documented distinctions include Spain’s National Award for Visual Arts in 2002 and the Drawing Prize of the Daniel and Florence Guerlain Contemporary Art Foundation in 2020.
