Francisco de Goya

Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (Spain, 1746 – France, 1828) was a painter and printmaker who trained in Zaragoza and Madrid. In his early career, he was known for creating cartoons for tapestries and portraits of the nobility, and he eventually served as court painter to King Charles IV.

His artistic style was initially characterized by a luminous and elegant approach. Over time, his work evolved toward a more critical and somber tone, influenced by his deafness and by events of his era such as the Spanish War of Independence. Through series such as "The Disasters of War", "Bullfighting", and the "Black Paintings", he captured a profound and heart-wrenching vision of the human condition.
