Günther Förg fue un artista alemán nacido en Füssen en 1952 y fallecido en 2013. Estudió en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Múnich entre 1973 y 1979, y desarrolló una obra multidisciplinar que abarca pintura, escultura, fotografía, obra gráfica y trabajos sobre papel.

Su práctica se caracterizó por una investigación constante sobre la abstracción, la arquitectura, el espacio y la materialidad de la obra. A lo largo de su trayectoria trabajó con monocromos, pinturas sobre plomo, fotografías arquitectónicas, retículas, campos de color y composiciones gestuales. Su producción dialoga con la herencia del modernismo, el minimalismo y la pintura abstracta, siempre desde una mirada experimental.

Sus trabajos forman parte de colecciones como Tate, MoMA, National Gallery of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Kunstmuseum Basel, Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart y Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt. Entre sus reconocimientos figura el Wolfgang Hahn Prize, recibido en 1996.
