Günther Förg (Germany, 1952–2013) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1973 to 1979 and developed a multidisciplinary body of work that encompasses painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and works on paper.

His practice was characterized by a constant exploration of abstraction, architecture, space, and the materiality of the work. Throughout his career, he worked with monochromes, lead-based paintings, architectural photographs, grids, color fields, and gestural compositions. His work engages with the legacy of Modernism, Minimalism, and abstract painting, always from an experimental perspective.

His works are part of collections such as those of the Tate, MoMA, the National Gallery of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, and the Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt. Among his awards is the Wolfgang Hahn Prize, which he received in 1996.
