Henri Matisse

Henri Émile Benoît Matisse (France, 1869–1954) studied law in Lille before moving to Paris in 1891, where he enrolled at the Académie Julian and later at the École des Beaux-Arts under the tutelage of Gustave Moreau. He pursued his artistic career in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, and printmaking.

He was one of the leading exponents of Fauvism, a movement characterized by the use of intense, non-naturalistic colors and visible brushstrokes. His style evolved toward formal simplification and a decorative approach. Throughout his career, he explored various techniques, most notably collage in his later years, created through compositions using cutouts of colored paper.

His works are part of collections and museums around the world. Among them is the Matisse Museum in Nice, dedicated to his legacy, which houses an extensive collection of his works. Leer menos
