Joaquín Capa (Spain, b. 1941) studied at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, as well as philosophy in Madrid and Rome, architecture in Madrid, and the sociology of art in Paris. He also researched new printmaking techniques at W. S. Hayter’s Atelier 17 in Paris. He received grants from the Juan March Foundation between 1975 and 1976 and from the Ministry of Culture between 1983 and 1984.

His artistic practice focuses on painting and printmaking and is technically distinguished by his research into and integration of new printmaking methods. Through his teaching residencies and the awards he has received there, he has developed a strong connection with India.

His work has been exhibited in several Spanish cities, as well as in Utrecht and Maastricht in the Netherlands. He was awarded the Grand Prize at the 1st International Biennale of Bhopal (India, 1989) and First Prize at the Cairo Biennale (Egypt, 1994). His work is held in collections and institutions including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, the Museo Municipal de Santander, the National Library of Spain in Madrid, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the National Museum in Prague, Kunsthaus Zürich, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others.
