Le Corbusier (Switzerland, 1887–France, 1965), the professional pseudonym of Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, studied arts and crafts in La Chaux-de-Fonds, worked at Auguste Perret’s studio in Paris, and collaborated with Peter Behrens in Germany, where he established ties with Josef Hoffmann and the Deutscher Werkbund. He pursued a career as an architect, painter, and art theorist, encompassing architecture, urban planning, painting, and art theory.

In painting, he explored styles including Cubism, Orphism, and Fauvism, using color as a creative laboratory that informed his architecture. Together with Amédée Ozenfant, he also founded the Purist movement and the journal "L’Esprit Nouveau". His architectural approach rejected historicist styles and conceived of the house as a “machine for living,” based on the interplay of volumes under light and the use of reinforced concrete, plate glass, and artificial materials.

His most notable buildings and projects include the Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau in Paris, the Villa de Monzie in Garches, the Villa Savoye in Poissy, the Swiss Pavilion at the Cité Universitaire in Paris, the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille, the Notre-Dame-du-Haut chapel in Ronchamp, the Monastery of La Tourette, and the urban plan and Capitol Complex buildings in Chandigarh, as well as proposals for the League of Nations in Geneva and the Palace of the Soviets in Moscow. He also published theoretical works including "Vers une architecture" (1927), "La maison des hommes" (1942), and "Quand les cathédrales étaient blanches" (1947).
