Agustín Redondela (Spain, 1922-2015) was a largely self-taught Spanish painter and considered one of the most original Spanish landscape artists of the 20th century. He held his first solo exhibition at the Estilo Gallery in Madrid in 1945. His travels throughout Spain fostered his appreciation for landscapes. His style evolved toward greater schematization and a reduced color range. He won the National Painting Prize in 1953 and a year later a scholarship from the Catherwood Foundation in Philadelphia. In 1996, he was awarded the González de la Peña Prize by the Royal Academy of San Fernando, and shortly after, in 1998, an anthological exhibition of his work was held at the Cultural Center of the City of Madrid.
