His career was shaped by several important places: Mont-roig, Paris, Mallorca, New York, and Japan. Mont-roig was essential to his connection with the land and landscape; Paris brought him closer to Surrealist poets and artists; Mallorca became his place of refuge and work; and New York and Japan helped expand the international reach of his art.

His practice included painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, artist’s books, and public art. Although he had links with Surrealism, Miró cannot be reduced to a single movement. He created his own language, based on signs, lines, stains, stars, women, birds, organic forms, and strong colors. His work combines imagination, visual poetry, a deep connection to the Catalan landscape, and a wish to break away from academic art.

His works are part of collections such as the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, Fundació Miró Mallorca, Museo Reina Sofía, MoMA, Tate, and MACBA. His awards include the Grand Prize for Printmaking at the Venice Biennale in 1954 and the Gold Medal of the Government of Catalonia in 1978. Leer menos
