Andy Warhol, born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was an influential artist, director, and producer, known for being an icon of the Pop Art movement. His real name was Andrew Warhola. Warhol studied graphic design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology before moving to New York City, where he began his career as a commercial illustrator. In the 1960s, Warhol gained fame for his paintings of iconic commercial products such as Campbell's Soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles, as well as for his portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.
Warhol also experimented with various art forms, including silkscreen printing, film, and music, founding the experimental rock band The Velvet Underground. His studio, known as "The Factory," became a cultural epicenter. Warhol died on February 22, 1987, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence contemporary art and popular culture.
