Christopher Wool (United States, 1955) is a contemporary painter whose practice focuses on the process of painting itself. His work examines the physical qualities of the medium and its essential elements: color, form, and line.

From his early years, he progressively reduced form and color while experimenting with painting and reproduction techniques such as silkscreen printing and pattern rollers. His compositions are constructed through superimpositions, erasures, overpainting, and new layers of paint—procedures that reference various gestures and processes in the history of contemporary art.

He has participated in the Whitney Biennial in New York and has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Instituto de Arte Moderno in Valencia, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
