Claes Oldenburg (Sweden, 1929). A Swedish-American artist born in Stockholm who died in the United States in 2022, he created works centered on the large-scale sculptural representation of everyday objects.

Associated with Pop Art, he transformed food, tools, and consumer products into monumental sculptures with an ironic and humorous character. He is known for his soft sculptures from the 1960s and for the large public sculptures created with his wife and collaborator, Coosje van Bruggen. His work addressed consumer culture and the relationship between art, urban space, and daily life.

Some of his most iconic works are housed in prestigious museums and institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Whitney Museum of American Art, also in New York, which holds pieces from his early period associated with "The Store" and the sculpture "Icebox" (1963).
