Cristina Gayarre

Cristina Gayarre (Spain, 1975). She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Complutense University, with a specialization in printmaking, and furthered her training through courses with Yoko Kataoka, Julio León, Manuel Ayllón, and Paco Aguilar. She works in printmaking, watercolor, and collage, as well as book illustration and mural painting.

Her early expressionist style has evolved toward more serene and sensual lines. The female figure and nature are the focal points of her compositions, which are characterized by contrast and chromatic duality. From numerous sketches, she selects those she considers most evocative and employs techniques such as drypoint, etching, linocut, watercolor, and collage, as part of a process of technical and formal experimentation.

Over the course of a 24-year career, she has participated in solo and group exhibitions, as well as art fairs such as FIG Bilbao, the Bilbao International Print and Art on Paper Festival; Estampa Madrid; and the Affordable Art Fair in cities including Hong Kong, Stockholm, Paris, London, and New York.
