Cy Twombly (United States, 1928 – Italy, 2011). A painter and sculptor, he studied in the early 1950s at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Art Students League of New York, and Black Mountain College in Asheville, North Carolina.

His style combines abstraction with calligraphic and symbolic elements. Through gestural strokes, doodles, and literary references, he developed a body of work centered on memory and history over the course of more than five decades.

His works are part of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Menil Collection in Houston. The latter features a permanent gallery dedicated exclusively to the artist.
