Francisco Leiro

Francisco Leiro Lois (Spain, 1957) is a visual artist who works in the disciplines of painting and sculpture. He began his artistic training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Santiago de Compostela and later continued his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid.

His work is characterized by a clear influence of Abstract Expressionism and figurative art. In defining his style, he fuses organic and geometric forms, combining figurative expression with formal exploration. This approach has led him to create significant works in public spaces, such as "Sireno" (1991) in Vigo, "Homenaje a Castelao" (1995) in Santiago de Compostela, "Batea o Saavedra" in Pontevedra, "Astronauta" in Valdemoro, "Vértigo" (2004) on the M50 in Madrid, and "Simeón sentado ante Torre Espacio".

In 1985, he represented Spain at the São Paulo Biennial, and since 1986 he has exhibited regularly at ARCO (Madrid). He is currently a full member of the Sculpture Section of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and his works are included in collections and contemporary art museums such as the Auditorio de Galicia, CAAM (Atlantic Center for Modern Art), and the Caja de Burgos Art Center; CGAC (Galician Center for Contemporary Art), the Abanca Collection, the Coca-Cola Foundation, the La Caixa Foundation, the Telefónica Foundation, MACBA, and the Patio Herreriano Museum of Contemporary Art in Valladolid; Grounds for Sculpture in New Jersey; the Marugame Hirai Museum in Kagawa, Japan; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, among others
