Isabel Muñoz Vilallonga was born in Barcelona in 1951. From a young age, she was interested in art, especially photography, and began studying it at the School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona. In the 1970s, she moved to Madrid, where she began her professional career in photography. There, she worked as a press and portrait photographer and began to develop her style, characterized by her constant search for beauty and the language of bodies. Isabel Muñoz has dedicated herself to photographing different cultures, including African, Japanese, Spanish, and Mexican cultures, among others. In all of her photographs, the artist seeks to capture the beauty of the human body, its forms, gestures, and movements. In 1999, Isabel Muñoz received her first World Press Photo Award, one of the most prestigious international photography awards. She received it for her series of photographs "Transsexuals in Cuba." In 2004, she received her second World Press Photo Award for her photographic series "Holy Week in Seville." In 2009, Isabel Muñoz received the PHotoEspaña Award and the Medal of Merit in Fine Arts. And in 2016, she received the Spanish National Photography Award, one of the most important recognitions in the field of photography in Spain.
