José Pedro Croft

José Pedro Croft (Portugal, 1957) is an artist whose practice encompasses sculpture, drawing, and printmaking, without establishing a hierarchy among them. Regarded as one of the leading figures in the renewal of Portuguese sculpture, he lives and works in Lisbon.

Developed independently of the paths defined by schools and artistic groups, his practice is characterized by a meticulous constructive process that brings together his formal and personal universes. His approach focuses on exploring nuances and subtle differences rather than adhering to any particular artistic direction. In 2017, he represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale with the installation "Medida Incerta", curated by João Pinharanda.

He has exhibited regularly since 1980. His work is held in collections and institutions including the Helga de Alvear Foundation Visual Arts Centre, Fundación ”la Caixa,” the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Caja Madrid, and the Banco de España in Spain; the Centro de Arte Moderna of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the EDP Foundation, the Luso-American Development Foundation, the Serralves Foundation, the Portuguese State Secretariat for Culture, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, and the Berardo Collection Museum in Portugal; the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo in Brazil; the Albertina in Austria; the Centre Pompidou in France; and the European Central Bank.
