Kenny Scharf (United States, 1958) is an artist who emerged as part of the New York art scene of the 1980s alongside figures such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. His practice encompasses graffiti and a wide range of disciplines and media, including painting, murals, sculpture, installation, performance, and fashion. His work explores themes related to popular culture, consumerism, science fiction, and extraterrestrial imagery.

His style combines the aesthetics of Pop Art, graffiti, and Surrealism, and he coined the term “Pop Surrealism” to describe his practice. His work is characterized by cosmic motifs and fantastical cartoon-like and anthropomorphic figures, incorporated into exuberant compositions articulated through a dazzling palette of colors. His playful and dynamic approach seeks to create an immersive, intimate, and unexpected experience while questioning and dismantling established artistic hierarchies.

His international recognition grew following his participation in the 1985 Whitney Biennial. Today, his work is held in the collections of prominent museums in countries including the United States, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan.
