Louise Bourgeois (France, 1911–United States, 2010) moved to the United States in 1938, where she developed an artistic career spanning more than seven decades. Her practice encompassed disciplines and media including sculpture, installation, and drawing, addressing themes of identity, trauma, the subconscious, femininity, memory, and the complexity of family relationships.

Her artistic style is distinguished by abstract, biomorphic sculptures incorporating organic forms and unsettling structures. Her approach was rooted in transforming personal experiences into works that connect the intimate sphere with themes of universal resonance.

Her work is held in the permanent collections of major museums of modern and contemporary art, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
