Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1925 - Madrid, 2019.
His medium of artistic expression has been wrought iron, making the wind and the spiral his leitmotif. The artist understands it as an Atlantic and Mediterranean symbol, seeking to emulate the nature of his original islands. The wind emerges materialized, capturing the intangible in the most condensed matter.
He is a co-founder of the group "El Paso." His presence on the American scene is notable through the exhibition "New Spanish Painters and Sculptors" at the MoMA in New York.
He chaired the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid between 1982 and 1992, and directed the Atlantic Center of Modern Art in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between 1989 and 2002.
His titles and awards include: Honorary Academician of the Royal Canary Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel (2001), International Sculpture Prize of the Budapest Biennial, National Prize for Plastic Arts, Canary Islands Prize for Plastic Arts, Gold Medal for Fine Arts, National Sculpture Prize of the CEOE, Medal of Honor of the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid and Plastic Arts Prize of the Community of Madrid in 2003.
He has been represented by the Marlborough Gallery since 1998.
