Tübingen, Germany, 1972. Lives and works in Seville, Spain. Throughout his career, Matías Sánchez has developed an abstract style of painting that includes a very personal type of figuration with expressionist influences. His work can be understood as a platform for the society in which we live, through the constant flow of images, television, the sensationalist press, and the prevailing mediocrity in institutions. His work vindicates painting above all else. It was at the 2002 edition of ARCO that Matías's work achieved enormous success with the public and critics. At ARCO 2003, a 6-meter oil painting of his was featured on the cover of the newspaper El País announcing that edition of the fair. His work has been exhibited at contemporary art centers such as CAC Málaga, where he held a solo exhibition, and the CAAM - Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). In recent years he has participated in important international fairs such as MACO 2013 - Mexico Contemporary Art, Art Stage Singapore 2013, Art Monaco 2013, India Art Fair 2013, Contemporary Istanbul 2012, Art Toronto 2012, Art Moscovo 2012 and Beirut Art Fair 2012. His work can be found in collections such as the Art Museum of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; Nazem Collection, Beirut; John Marquez Collection, Miami; Miaow Meow Collection, Hong Kong; CAC Málaga; Benetton Art Spain Collection; Caramba Collection, CAAC Sevilla; Luc Caurichon, Paris, France; and the S. Goodman Collection, New York, among others.
