Pedro Calapez, born in Lisbon in 1953, is a prominent Portuguese contemporary artist known for his multidisciplinary approach and his exploration of the relationship between space, light, and color. He graduated in painting from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts in 1977, where he developed an interest in geometric abstraction and experimentation with diverse techniques and materials. Throughout his career, he has worked in painting, sculpture, printmaking, installation, and photography, characterized by a minimalist aesthetic and meticulous attention to composition and color. His works invite contemplation and reflection on visual perception and spatial experience, challenging conventional notions of pictorial representation and spatial depth. Calapez has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at internationally renowned galleries and museums, receiving awards and distinctions for his contribution to contemporary art. He has also been a visiting professor at academic institutions and has actively promoted the dissemination of contemporary art in Portugal.
