Peter Doig

Peter Doig is a Scottish painter (Edinburgh, Scotland, 1959), known for his enigmatic atmospheric landscapes and for his renewal of contemporary figurative painting. Born in Edinburgh, he grew up between Trinidad, Canada, and the United Kingdom, experiences that have influenced his visual imagination and the construction of his scenes.

His paintings often present landscapes, architecture, and figures that bring together memory, found images, personal experience, and references to the history of painting, film, and popular culture. Through intense colors, worked surfaces, and ambiguous compositions, Doig creates images suspended between the real and the imaginary, with a strong atmospheric and emotional charge.

His work is part of collections such as MoMA, Tate, and the National Galleries of Scotland. He has presented exhibitions in institutions such as Tate Britain, the Scottish National Gallery, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Fondation Beyeler, the Dallas Museum of Art, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, and Serpentine Galleries.
