Robert Longo is a U.S. artist (Brooklyn, New York, United States, 1953), whose practice includes drawing, sculpture, photography, film, and music. He studied at Buffalo State College and, in the 1970s, co-founded Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, an independent space that played an important role in Buffalo’s art scene.

His work is known for images of great visual intensity, often made in charcoal, which transform photographs, media scenes, architecture, bodies, and symbols of power into monumental compositions. He gained recognition in the 1980s with the series Men in the Cities, in which he represented figures dressed in suits in tense, fragmented poses, linked to the violence, and alienation of urban life.

His work is part of collections such as MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou, and the National Gallery of Art. He has presented exhibitions in institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Menil Collection, the Albertina in Vienna, and Kunstmuseen Krefeld.
