Salvador Dalí was a Spanish artist born in Figueres in 1904, recognized as one of the most influential figures in Surrealism and 20th-century art. He studied at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid and lived at the Residencia de Estudiantes, where he became friends with Luis Buñuel and Federico García Lorca. He died in Figueres on 1989.

His work spanned painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, set design, writing, film, and collaborations in photography and design. Dalí created a distinctive visual language characterized by dreamlike images, ambiguous symbols, distorted objects, and scenes of great technical precision. Among his best-known works is The Persistence of Memory (1931), housed at MoMA. He also collaborated with Luis Buñuel on Un perro andaluz (1929) and The Golden Age (1930).

His work is part of collections such as the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, MoMA, the Tate, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Afundación, Fundación MAPFRE, and the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg. Among his verifiable honors is the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, awarded by Spain in 1971.
