MATERIALS AND CARE

 Recommendations for proper conservation of works of art:

  • Keep artwork away from direct sunlight and any other heat sources (heating, air conditioning, etc.). Avoid hanging artwork near areas with smoke and pollution (such as fireplaces or kitchens). We recommend protecting your artwork with a glass frame.

Avoid sudden temperature changes. It is recommended to store paintings in areas with a room temperature of 18-20°C and 50% relative humidity.

If you want to permanently illuminate the work, we recommend using cold light sources. Use a soft duster for periodic cleaning. Never use household cleaners.
SHIPPING AND RETURNS

Shipping usually takes around 7 days. Shipping costs are determined based on the gallery's location and the size of the artwork. Packaging material costs are included.

Purchases made through Arte Global’s website (www.arteglobal.es) can be canceled within 24 hours. After this period, the purchase is considered final.

Information about the work

Equipo Crónica was an artistic group founded in 1965 in Valencia, composed of Manolo Valdés (Valencia, 1942), Rafael Solbes (Valencia, 1940-1981), and Juan Antonio Toledo (Valencia, 1940-1995). This collective was characterized by combining a pop aesthetic with a critical and political perspective against Franco's regime. In this print, we can appreciate that characteristic two-dimensional style, with striking colors and a simplification of forms that comes to resemble geometric figures. Furthermore, the work has a marked Spanish identity, incorporating elements such as the fan and the figure of a young woman wearing what appears to be Sevillian attire, an aspect also reflected in the title of the piece: Abanico torero (Bullfighter's Fan).

Equipo Crónica was a Spanish art collective formed in Valencia in 1964 and active until 1981. It was originally composed of Rafael Solbes, Manuel Valdés, and Juan Antonio Toledo, although Toledo left the group shortly after, leaving Solbes and Valdés as the remaining members. Their emergence was linked to Estampa Popular de Valencia and to a context of critical renewal of figuration during the last years of Franco's regime.

Their work is associated with Spanish Pop Art, but with a strong political and social dimension. Through painting, graphic work, sculpture, and other media, the group re-used images from art history, mass culture, the press, and Spanish history to construct an ironic and critical view of power, memory, repression, official culture, and the media. Their work was especially important for connecting the Pop language with a critical reading of Spanish reality.

The work of Equipo Crónica is part of collections such as the IVAM, which holds over a hundred works by the group; the Museo Reina Sofía; the MACBA; the Banco de España Collection; and the "la Caixa" Foundation Contemporary Art Collection.
