Cabeza by Xavier Mascaró

Xavier Mascaró is a Spanish sculptor (Madrid, Spain, 1965). He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where he graduated in painting in 1988, and soon after turned his practice toward sculpture. In 1989, he made his first bronze pieces and, from 1995 onward, iron became one of the central materials in his production.

His work is characterized by monumental and totemic forms made from materials such as iron, bronze, stone, resin, and leaded glass. Through these pieces, Mascaró explores themes such as memory, archaeology, tradition, human presence, and the passage of time. Many of his sculptures have an unsettling and ceremonial character, and establish a direct relationship with the space in which they are installed.

He has developed monumental works installed in places such as Ceutí, Jerez de la Frontera, and Pinto. His works have been presented in cities such as Madrid, London, New York, Paris, Abu Dhabi, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires, and at fairs such as ARCO, Art Madrid, Art Cologne, TEFAF, and Bologna Arte Fiera. He has also exhibited in spaces such as the Saatchi Gallery in London, the IVAM in Valencia, the Museo Reina Sofía, the Jardin du Palais Royal in Paris, and the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos.
