Information about the work

The Bed, by the artist Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923–2012), is a print that addresses themes such as human vulnerability, memory, and the material burden of forms. The work depicts a reclining figure, partially abstract in character, set against a dark, earthy background enriched with textures and rough surfaces. The composition incorporates symbols such as a cross and other abstract forms that evoke ideas of suffering, healing, and the passage of time. The muted color scheme, along with the gestural marks, generates a dense, introspective atmosphere, inviting reflection on the fragility and resilience of body and spirit, common themes in Tàpies's work.

Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012) was a Spanish painter and sculptor considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was born in Barcelona and studied law before dedicating himself to painting. After contracting tuberculosis, he abandoned his studies and began painting in 1946. His work is characterized by the use of unconventional materials, such as earth, sand, plaster, and found objects, which he incorporated into his paintings to create textures and reliefs. Furthermore, his style was associated with the Informalism movement, an artistic movement characterized by abstraction and spontaneity in the creation of works. Tàpies began exhibiting in 1948 and quickly gained recognition for his work. In the 1950s, his work was displayed in major international exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel. In 1953, he founded the Dau al Set group, an artistic movement that championed creative freedom and experimentation in art. Throughout his career, Tàpies held numerous exhibitions around the world, including a retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona in 1962 and another at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1995. He also received numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Gold Medal for Fine Arts in 1983 and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 1990. In addition to his career as an artist, Tàpies was also active in Spanish politics. He served as a member of the Spanish Senate in the 1980s and joined the Catalan political party ERC in 2004. Antoni Tàpies died in Barcelona in 2012, leaving behind a significant artistic legacy in the contemporary art world.

Impeccable. Always attentive to their customers and exceptional service. Highly recommended.

- Luis Eduardo Ruiz Santiago

I was treated with absolute transparency via WhatsApp; they knew a lot about the art market and framing. The lithograph arrived today with great care, in a cardboard tube wrapped in onionskin paper. It looks just like the photo! But the size wasn't perfect for me; they need to improve that aspect. A very good virtual experience!

- Marta Vilchez

I have found a product/work that satisfies me and the most correct commercial treatment.
