MATERIALS AND CARE

 Recommendations for proper conservation of works of art:

  • Keep artwork away from direct sunlight and any other heat sources (heating, air conditioning, etc.). Avoid hanging artwork near areas with smoke and pollution (such as fireplaces or kitchens). We recommend protecting your artwork with a glass frame.

Avoid sudden temperature changes. It is recommended to store paintings in areas with a room temperature of 18-20°C and 50% relative humidity.

If you want to permanently illuminate the work, we recommend using cold light sources. Use a soft duster for periodic cleaning. Never use household cleaners.
SHIPPING AND RETURNS

Shipping usually takes around 7 days. Shipping costs are determined based on the gallery's location and the size of the artwork. Packaging material costs are included.

Purchases made through Arte Global’s website (www.arteglobal.es) can be canceled within 24 hours. After this period, the purchase is considered final.

Information about the work

Lanzarote is a powerful testament to the vital and visceral approach of Miquel Barceló’s art, a key element of his international recognition since the 1980s. This etching captures the raw energy of a bullfight, with a textured black bull charging and an equally gestural and scribbled bullfighter composed of dense, charcoal-like marks. The absolute centerpiece is a single splash of brilliant, saturated red that pulses against the intricate, dynamic and almost abstract background textures suggestive of a chaotic crowd. Barceló transforms the scene into a direct physical encounter, where paper, ink, and this specific, tangible color become a site of intense material transformation.

Miquel Barceló is a Spanish artist (Felanitx, Mallorca, Spain, 1957). His practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, book illustration, installation, and large wall projects. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Palma and spent a short time at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, although much of his career developed through self-teaching.

His language is marked by strong experimentation with material, color, texture, and physical processes of transformation. His work includes references to the Mediterranean, nature, animals, the sea, Baroque painting, Art Brut, and his stays in Africa, especially in Mali. His participation in the São Paulo Biennial in 1981 and in Documenta VII in Kassel in 1982 helped him gain international recognition. His most important public projects include the ceramic work in the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament in Palma Cathedral and the dome of Room XX at the United Nations Palace in Geneva.

His work is part of collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía, Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and Guggenheim Bilbao. His awards include the National Prize for Visual Arts in 1986, the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2003, the AECA Grand Prize for the best living international artist represented at ARCO’03, and the Sorolla Prize from the Hispanic Society of America.
