Barcelona, 1922-2009 In addition to the extensive pictorial career that has given him international recognition, Albert Ràfols Casamada's work includes another creative facet as a literary poet. It is also not surprising that his multidisciplinary nature has drawn him to teaching and pedagogy in the world of visual arts. In his painting, he has developed and maintained that fragile balance between tradition and modernity: his work, with classical roots, also incorporates the legacy of the avant-garde movements. In the early 1970s, he abandoned figuration to work on abstract painting, which would lead him, in the 1980s and 1990s, to develop a more lyrical abstraction. This process would lead to what would become the most recognized period of his artistic career. Furthermore, Ràfols Casamada played a fundamental role in the renewal of art education in Spain, being a founding member of the Eina School of Art in Barcelona in 1967.
