Anders Kjellesvik

Anders Kjellesvik is a Norwegian contemporary artist born in 1975 in Bergen. He is known for his interdisciplinary approach combining sculpture, installation, and photography, and his work is often inspired by nature and the urban environment. Kjellesvik studied at the National Academy of Arts in Oslo, graduating in 2001. His work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, including in Norway, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Spain. One of his best-known works is "The Rain Project," an installation in which he created an artificial cloud inside a gallery using water vapor and light. The work was presented at the Venice Biennale in 2007 and has been exhibited in other cities across Europe. Another notable work by Kjellesvik is "Flooded," an installation in which he built a life-size house inside a gallery and flooded it with water. The work is a reflection on the effects of climate change and the increasing threat of flooding around the world. In his work, Kjellesvik has also explored themes such as identity and memory, through the creation of stone portraits and the utilization of materials found in nature, such as branches and leaves. In 2015, Kjellesvik received the inaugural Fritt Ord Foundation Contemporary Art Award in Norway, which recognizes artists working at the intersection of art and politics. Kjellesvik continues to work from his studio in Bergen, and his work has been acquired by numerous public and private collections in Norway and abroad. His interdisciplinary approach and ability to create works that challenge conventional expectations have made him a leading figure in the contemporary art scene.
