Antonio Sosa was born in Coria del Río in 1952 and resides in the neighboring town of La Puebla, Seville. His deep and stable connection to these places on the right bank of the Guadalquivir River is a remarkable first element for approaching his work. From there, through his personal poetics, he achieves a language of universal symbols and signs. A solitary and independent creator, he acquired great prestige as a sculptor in the 1980s. He worked at the legendary gallery La Máquina Española and was definitively established as one of the most interesting and international Andalusian artists after his participation in the Eklécticos exhibition in 1985 and his solo exhibition at the Luis Cernuda Foundation in 1989. Since 1981, he has participated in up to 100 exhibitions, as well as in all editions of ARCO until 2011. It is worth noting the inclusion of his work in the important international compendium Sculpture Today, published by Phaidon in London, in 2007. His work is widely represented in private and institutional collections such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the National Library, the Banco de España Collection, the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, the Junta de Andalucía Collection, the El Monte Collection, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza, the La Caixa Foundation Collection, and the Martin Luther King Columbus Center in Ohio, among others.
