Part of what characterizes us as humans is our ability to see beyond the narrow door through which we came into the world, to grow beyond the culture of our birth, recognizing the existence of other cultures, other ways of life. While the culture of our birth is always imprinted on us and the mystery of identity is never fully resolved, we will always belong to a time and place to which we can never return.
