David Tremlett (England, 1945) is one of the most versatile artists of the modern world. He studied sculpture at the Birmingham School of Art (United Kingdom) and later at the Royal College of Art (London, United Kingdom).
Since the 1980s, his primary medium has been pastel, of which he says: "It's a fragile, delicate powder, so light you can blow it, but at the same time you can make something strong, demanding and structurally resistant." In 1992, he was nominated for the Turner Prize for his wall drawings which are displayed around the world. From the late 1970s, he began creating wall drawings especially in public projects, such as the British Embassy in Berlin, the British Council building in Nairobi, etc.
Tremlett has exhibited internationally in private galleries and major museums, with 10 catalogs and several artist books to his credit. His extensive exhibition career includes solo exhibitions at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris; the Stedelijik Museum in Amsterdam; Museo Pecci, Prato, Italy; and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
