Dennis Hollingsworth is a contemporary artist born in Madrid in 1956, but who moved to the United States with his family at an early age. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California. He studied painting at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the California Institute of the Arts. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and is held in numerous public and private collections. Hollingsworth is known for his abstract, gestural style, in which he uses mixed media and various tools to create textures and layers on his canvases. His works often focus on the exploration of color and form, and how these elements can interact in pictorial space. The artist has received several awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the Joan Mitchell Prize in Painting and Sculpture in 1995 and the Pollock-Krasner Prize in 1997. He has also been an artist-in-residence at numerous institutions, including the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and the American Art Institute in Vienna. In addition to his work as an artist, Hollingsworth has taught at a number of institutions, including the University of California, Santa Barbara, the University of Southern California, and the California Institute of the Arts.
