Diango Hernández is a Cuban contemporary artist born in 1970. He began his artistic practice in Cuba in 1994 as co-founder of Ordo Amoris Cabinet, a group of artists and designers who focused on inventive solutions for home design objects to compensate for the permanent shortage of materials and goods. In 2003, he moved to Europe and currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany. Hernández's work has been exhibited in various international exhibitions and biennials, including the Venice Biennale, the Sydney Biennale, and the São Paulo Biennale in 2006. In 2009, his work was the subject of a critically acclaimed exhibition, "Losing You Tonight," at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Siegen. Two of his installations were included in "The New Décor" at the Hayward Gallery, London in 2010. A retrospective exhibition of his work took place at the Museo D'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (MART) in Rovereto in 2011-12. In 2013, the Marlborough Contemporary gallery in London presented a solo exhibition of his work, "The New Man and the New Woman". In 2014, his work was the subject of a solo exhibition called "Socialist Nature" at the Landesgalerie, Linz. In 2015, Hernández had solo exhibitions at Marlborough Contemporary, London and at the Kunsthalle Munster. In 2016, a solo exhibition of his work, titled "Theoretical Beach", took place at the Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen. Hernández's work explores themes such as identity, memory, history and politics, and uses diverse media, including painting, sculpture, drawing and installation. His work is often characterized by careful attention to detail and a minimalist aesthetic, and has been described as poetic and philosophical.
