Dorothea von Elbe, although American by nationality, has lived in Córdoba since the 1980s, the city where she has spent her entire artistic career. In developing her work, she primarily recreates specific details of natural reality. Nature has been a recurring motif in the arts, but also in thought. Both disciplines derive from observation and self-absorption, from the desire to theorize and explain the world, from the obsession with encompassing it. The healing and consolatory capacity of art (as synonyms for transcendence and interiorization) allows us to turn to the most ephemeral and simple as a conceptual medium, because density is created by the singularity of the gaze, the appropriate treatment of materials, and the stroke itself. In von Elbe's work, the individual object ultimately becomes an icon of the absolute. She has held solo exhibitions in Spain and the United States, and her work is included in important public collections: the Testimonio Collection of La Caixa, National Library (Madrid).
