Eva Lootz is an Austrian visual artist, naturalized Spanish, who has lived in Spain since 1967. She was born in Vienna in 1940 and studied Fine Arts, Musicology, Cinematography, and Philosophy in her hometown. Later, in Madrid, Eva Lootz continued her artistic career, which has developed primarily in Spain. She participated in the creation of the magazine HUMO along with other artists, although only one issue was published. Her artistic work focuses primarily on installations, but she has also worked in other artistic languages such as drawing, printmaking, photography, and video, among others. Eva Lootz's work is often interpreted as a reflection on human intervention in nature. In her installations, she uses materials such as mercury, coal, sand, and wood to construct a discourse around memory, time, and essential human problems. Her work is characterized by its strong commitment to the environment and sustainability. In 1994, Eva Lootz received the National Prize for Plastic Arts for her outstanding artistic career. Her work can be found in prestigious private and public collections, and has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Eva Lootz is one of the most important contemporary artists on the Spanish art scene.
