Jaime Welsh is a visual artist born in 1994 in Lisbon, Portugal, currently living and working in London. He is known for his highly constructed photographs, which often depict clinical and formal interiors and present figures in an architectural space as allegories of tense and anxious psychological states. His research focuses on the formal relationship between humans and architectural space, as well as the evocation of psychological interiority through photography. Welsh graduated from Goldsmiths in London in 2021, as a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Fellow and Goldsmiths University Fellow. His work has been exhibited in major spaces and galleries, including the Madragoa Gallery, the Saatchi Gallery, the Firstsite Museum, and White Cube, among others. Additionally, she has received important awards and recognitions, such as the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2021, the Tomorrow by White Cube 2021, and the Circa Art Class of 2020. She has also been an artist-in-residence at Rua das Gaivotas 6 and Tate Exchange at Tate Modern. Her works are part of public collections, such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and Antonio Cachola's MACE Collection. Jaime Welsh's work has been reviewed and featured in major publications such as Frieze Magazine, Contemporânea, Elephant Magazine, Jornal Expresso, Umbigo Magazine, and Urbana, among others. Through her work, Welsh explores universal themes such as identity, subjectivity, and the relationship between humans and their architectural environment.
