Jean-Michel Basquiat (United States, 1960–1988). He began his career in urban art by creating graffiti under the pseudonym “SAMO,” before transitioning to gallery art. He developed his work in the fields of painting and graphic art, linking his practice to graphic design, street art, and expressionism.

His work is characterized by a raw and fragmented aesthetic, based on the use of color, text, and symbolism. Through his work, he addresses themes such as racial identity, violence, and popular culture, reflecting his personal experiences and the social and political tensions of his time, while incorporating commentary and references to art history and urban life.

His work is included in the collections of contemporary art museums in the United States and Europe, including The Broad in Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and MoMA in New York. In Spain, his works can be found at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao—which houses the piece "The Man from Naples" (1982)—and at MACBA in Barcelona, which holds paintings and graphic works.
