Jessica Stockholder (Seattle, USA, 1959) is one of the most influential sculptors of her generation. Her work spans nearly three decades and is characterized by a commitment to color and materials. The way she interprets objects has become a hallmark of Stockholder's creation, as she engages with both the conceptual and the constructive spheres, through associations between the identifiable and the abstract.
Stockholder's interest focuses on the assembly of objects of different nature and origins. Her work interrogates heterogeneity through an additive process of superimposing materials, in which she combines objects from the real world and objects created by her without causing chaos. This is due to her control of space and its contents, which allows her to create order among what at first glance appears chaotic and disjointed.
