José Vera Matos is a contemporary Peruvian artist who works with diverse media, including painting, sculpture, installation, and video art. He was born in Lima in 1981 and studied at the Faculty of Art and Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. His work is characterized by exploring themes related to cultural identity, memory, and history, as well as the relationship between nature and culture. In his work, Vera Matos utilizes an abstract and minimalist aesthetic, with geometric forms and vibrant colors that suggest the vitality of nature. At the same time, his works have a strong conceptual content, addressing social and political issues related to Peru's past and present. Among José Vera Matos's most notable exhibitions is his participation in the Venice Biennale in 2015, where he presented an installation titled "Peruvian Pavilion: Yuncán," which explored the contradictions between Indigenous and Western culture in the context of Peruvian history.
