Julia Puyo is a Spanish artist born in Vitoria in 1968. She studied Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country and later completed her training at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. She is known for her abstract and minimalist work, which combines geometric elements with sober textures and colors. Puyo's work is characterized by the exploration of light and shadow, and the creation of illusory spaces in which elements appear to float in the air. She uses materials such as wood, steel, iron and aluminum to create her sculptures and wall reliefs, which are usually presented in serial formats and series. Among the awards and recognitions she has received, the First Prize for Sculpture at the Luarca National Art Competition (1994), the Basque Government's Artistic Creation Grant (1995), the Special Mention at the VIII Oviedo Sculpture Biennial (2003) and the Navarre Government's Plastic Arts Grant (2008) stand out. Julia Puyo's work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Spain and abroad, including countries such as France, Italy, Portugal and Morocco. Her pieces are part of collections of museums and entities such as the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts, the Álava Provincial Council and the Art and Patronage Foundation, among others. Her work has been praised by critics for its formal rigor, its ability to create atmospheres and its relationship with the architectural environment in which they are integrated.
